After 30 years of teaching and 3 years in public sector administration, since 2012 I have been researching 'Sportsmen Who Died in The Great War'. I published a book about this subject, 'Men Who Played the Game', in November 2015. The book examined the status of sport in 1914, it's reaction to the outbreak of war and the stories of some of the sportsmen killed in the conflict. I am now working on a possible second book which examines the experience of sportsmen in World War Two.My experience in education includes running a department (History) and a faculty (Humanities) before joining the Senior Management Team. Here I was responsible for managing the school curriculum (6 years) and managing the pastoral system (16 years). During this time I was Assistant Head and finally Deputy Head. I am also a qualified counsellor. For 4 years I was the staff representative on the Board of Governors and later served on the Governing Body of a local primary school for 6 years, serving as Chair for the last 4.I continue to work part time in education. I worked with the University of South Wales and local schools on a series of projects for four years. With the NFER I am responsible for administrating and running reading and numeracy tests in local schools. My work with the EAS involves servicing the governing bodies of several local schools.My interests include following most sports, especially rugby, football and cricket but mostly as an armchair critic. I listen to many forms of music but have a particular interest in west coast American/Canadian singer songwriters and British acoustic blues. I play the guitar, both electric and acoustic. I am treasurer of the Gwent branch of the Western Front Association and regularly give talks on the Great War. I am married with 2 children and one grandson.
