I retired from Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. I joined in 1983 so was there for a total of 36 years.I joined at a time when commercialism in football was at an early stage, with only limited pitch perimeter advertising and club lotteries. I look back on those days, as a pioneer in introducing various income streams as match sponsorship, match entertaining packages, later known as corporate hospitality. Match days saw the introduction of pre match tours for the matchday sponsors and hospitality guests culminating in a visit to the Spurs dressing room and pitch area. We were the first club to offer this innovation which was eventually taken on by other clubs. Just 6 weeks into my arrival I sourced and sold the first main Club sponsor of the Club in Holsten, a partnership which went on for a total of 20 years, with Hewlett Packard taking up the shirt sponsorship for 4 years in the late '90's before Holsten returned for its final 3 years. Commercial income increased annually with innovations like my launching and presenting Spurs Line, a premium phone service where fans could hear the latest news and exclusive player and manager interviews 24/7, a forerunner before the advent of the internet, Sky Sports, etc. There was also the Spurs Roadshow, which annually attended fetes and events in and around North London, Herts and Essex. On matchdays, I continued adding more title match sponsorships, like match ball, match programme and shirt sponsors. Add to this, the 120 executive boxes of 8, 10, 12 & 18 seaters plus 12 executive membership lounges named after Spurs Legends - Pat Jennings, Steve Perryman, Gary Mabbutt etc. Matchday corporate guests regularly reached a total of 2,500 for each match. A significant contribution to the Club and forerunner to setting the foundation to building the magnificent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in which I was involved in its sales operation 5 years before it's opening. I was able to attend it's opening and worked at the first 7 matches of its opening before the end of the season before my retirement, my last match being the Champions League Final v Liverpool on 1st June 2019, sadly not on a winning note, but it capped a great end to my 36 years at my job of love.I now run my own events business - Mike Rollo Events. The mainstream of which are regular golf days, theatre and dinners featuring the many Spurs Legends I worked with both in their playing days over the past 40 years and having been employed at hosts in the various lounges at the White Hart Lane stadium. Football Club advice or consultancy is another service I can provide.
