Mike was a curriculum innovator and adviser to: governments; strategic education initiatives; the education industry and schools. He is a stimulating, inspiring and challenging speaker on a broad range of curriculum and educational issues with a particular interest and expertise in the impact and importance of ICT and new technologies for learning.He developed, created and implemented innovative curriculum designs and curriculum materials for 21st Century learners at strategic and at classroom levels working comfortably with government representatives and with individual teachers.As a senior programme manager at England’s Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in the Futures, Innovation and E-learning team, Mike worked extensively with learners, local authorities, head teachers, teachers, employers and other interested groups resulting in the development of a whole-curriculum overview and three key aims for education which informed the direction of the revised secondary national curriculum for England.Now retired, Mike’s most recent work included: strategic planning for the modernisation of curriculum and assessment in Malaysian schools; in depth visits to schools in Malaysia to assess their readiness for change and to identify their individual needs; advice to a University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the structure and content of their foundation year curriculum for all students; consultancy for the National Curriculum Board (now ACARA) of Australia on the design of their first national curriculum; adviser to the 21st Century Learning Alliance (UK) and lead judge for the 21st Century Learning awards; consultant to a national body on the design and operation of their website to support the teaching of literacy and; as a writer of curriculum materials and a teacher trainer in the teaching of ICT for the Mawhiba Schools Partnership Initiative in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a project to further develop gifted and creative students.
