The NC HIDTA is one of the thirty three (33) HIDTAs in the nation that were created by Congress with the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 to provide assistance to federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States. The NC HIDTA is governed by a balanced eighteen(18) member executive board comprised of nine (9) federal law enforcement executives and nine (9) state and local law enforcement executives. The NC HIDTA provides support for 23 narcotic enforcement/intelligence/support initiatives/task forces comprised of co-located federal, state and local law enforcement personnel. The NC HIDTA also maintains a specialized investigative equipment pool and provides regional narcotic and officer safety training. The NC HIDTA has an area of responsibility that covers thirteen (13) HIDTA designated counties from Monterey to Humboldt County. The NC HIDTA is funded through the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The NCRIC is one of the 80 governor designated and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognized fusion centers located in the United States and US Territories. The NCRIC is a multi-agency task force with more than seventy (80+) intelligence officers, intelligence analysts, critical infrastructure specialists, investigative equipment technicians, support staff, and private sector outreach officers that are assigned from federal, state and local law enforcement, fire service, public health, and emergency management agencies.
