Music Therapist
CurrentMusic therapy is the clinical use of music used in a therapeutic relationship between therapist and clients to promote personal growth and improve quality of life. A music therapist uses music as a tool to build relationships, teach healthy ways of behaving and thinking, and teach life skills. At SEEM Collaborative, Music therapy looks to address the goal areas of communication, social skills, creating an outlet for purposeful expression, cognitive development, academic achievement and transfer, motor skills, and physical health. Every session follows a format that is predictable yet creative, ensuring safety, input, stability and success. A typical session includes a greeting and ending song that supportively transitions the students into and out of music and two or three music activities (including active music making such as singing and/or playing instruments, song-writing, and dance/movement activities) as well as space for improvisation. Goals are group based, as well as individually based, as the needs of each classroom and each student vary.
