After completing a BSc in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching, I taught for over fourteen years in the primary school sector. During that time, I held several roles, including senior leadership positions and published a range of maths books used throughout New Zealand. While teaching, I completed my Master of Education endorsed in Inclusive and Special Education. I then started work at the University of Canterbury, where I lectured in the Specialist Teaching Programme. While working at the University of Canterbury, I completed my PhD, which focused on identifying children with reading difficulties. My research investigates how we identify and support children with reading difficulties and the different cognitive profiles exhibited by groups of struggling readers. I now work interprofessionally across papers in the Institute of Education at Massey University.
