WTSI are a world-renowned genomic research campus with 1,800 scientific research and support staff. Initially engaged on a 3-month interim contract as the sole Procurement Partner (PP) to provide procurement expertise whilst three permanent PP roles were filled, my contract was twice extended. • The primary emphasis was to “avoid upsetting the scientists”!! In a highly poilitical organisation this was more of a challenge than it might appear. Evidently I was successful, with two contract extensions (whilst others were terminated).• Notwithstanding the above I contributed over £400k of added value across projects targeted from the entire spectrum of campus spend.o £100k on MFD’s (copier/printers).o £123k on Life Form handling equipment.o £103k on a range of highly technical scientific lab equipment.o £75k on external consultancy services.• Major support contracts were re-sourced introducing significant improvements in service levels for site cleaning and Occupational Health, in a region with zero unemployment.• I stripped out extraneous administration from the procurement process, and was able to impress clients with rapid completion backed up by a professional contracting service.• I forged an excellent relationship with in-house Legal, and completed contracting in unprecedented timescales where others failed.• With a hiatus around the Head of Procurement role, I sat on the Procurement Senior Management team, reporting directly to the CFO, and gave advice on team structure, strategy, performance measurement and management, and took a leading role in developing the department image across the campus.

Burton On Trent And Featherstone (W Yorks)

Review of Warehouse Efficiency, workstream planning in Warehouse and Dispensary.Following out-sourcing of the warehouse and distribution functions, things were not going well. My role was to review operations and interface between warehouse and dispensary. After 5 months working with the new contractor performance levels had increased from 78% to 98%.I was transferred to the Featherstone site, hitherto earmarked for closure, as General Manager to align it with its newly-reinstated future role. After a further 5 months the site was fully staffed, dilapidations had been repaired, and performance reached 98%.

Europe

Working in Germany in the Pharma sector I was engaged on an initial 6 week contract to review interfaces with third party logistics providers. This was extended to tender logistics and transport services in the mass market sector. I negotiated, contracted and implemented new contracts. I then re-negotiated the Pharmacy and Wholesale sectors with the existing provider, with major savings and KPI performance based contracts.
