Mike’s primary roles are to lead the business development activities, to ensure that contracts entered into by Maritime Services provide good long term profitability and that the supply chain is robust, effective and competitive.Mike started his career in 1979 with British Aerospace who sponsored him through a Business Studies degree while at the same time providing him with relevant industrial experience. Following his graduation, Mike spent 8 years in the Commercial Department of British Aerospace travelling around Europe and North America helping to secure contracts for Hawk and Harrier aircraft. Continuing his career with Plessey and then GEC Marconi, Mike worked in the areas of Defence, Air Traffic and Telecommunications. This involved bidding for and negotiating contracts in many different countries across the world. During this period he worked for 18 months as the Commercial and Procurement Director of an International JV company based in Paris on the £700M PAAMS development programme and subsequently managed the Commercial function for the International Division of GPT. In 1998 Mike joined the Alenia Marconi Systems JV and worked in the UK Missiles Division as Business Development and Commercial Director. During that time he negotiated substantial business in the Middle East. In May 2001 Mike was appointed as Group Commercial and Legal Director for the AMS JV based in Rome.When the AMS JV was dissolved in 2005 Mike was appointed Commercial Director of the Insyte. Mike’s responsibilities were later extended to cover Procurement, oversight of Insyte’s M&A activity and management of the BAE shareholding in the Astute PFI. In 2011, when Insyte was dissolved, Mike was appointed Commercial and Procurement Director of Mission Systems with the added responsibilities of overseeing its factory in Hillend. Show less
