Desktop Support Technician

Urbana-Champaign, Illinois Area

I originally started off on the application support team. I was hired in as the highest tiered support for soon to be released software (FS One), helping customers via phone, email, and remote support. I grew the position significantly to also include: training of all tier 1 technicians, creating web content, and assist developers with new feature requests as well as bug identification, analysis, and tracking. I headed the testing team during both alpha and beta stages. Due to my efforts, I was the recipient of the “It Matters” award, Horizon Hobbies highest award for service. I was also an integral part of the subsequent on-boarding and release of the Phoenix RC Project with the same responsibilities. Along with my FS One\Phoenix duties, I was part of the app support team. In this role, I was responsible for supporting and testing of various types of software including: dealer ordering and POS.As I had a lot of experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting software\hardware issues, I was asked by desktop support if I could, in addition to my normal duties, assist them due to a large backlog. After working on desktop for a few months, I was asked if I could stay on desktop support full time. While on the desktop team, I was responsible for all the standard desktop duties of diagnosis and resolution of issues related to hardware and software including: computers, multi-function printers\copiers, PBX and SIP phone management, RF ring scanners and scan guns. The desktop team was also responsible for diagnosing network issues up to the point of the switch, but this also largely included switch issues most often centered around port configuration. In addition to the normal desktop support duties, I was also given project work such as creating images for mass deployment, pre-purchase hardware assessment, input into selection and subsequent training of new technicians, documentation in the form of various “how to” guides and best practices at a user and admin level.
