Provided technical support and counsel to both the Center Chief Technologist and Center management, advising on technologies the center should pursue, facilitating technology development within the MSFC workforce, and promoting innovation and creativity among the MSFC workforce. Focused primarily on enabling the center's technology portfolio and on identifying and removing barriers to successful technology contribution to NASA's goals and objectives.

Served in NASA Marshall Space Flight Center leadership role, promoting innovation and creativity among Center managers and employees. Encouraged employees to conceive and develop their ideas for doing their jobs better, improving our business practices and operating procedures, and developing new or improved products and services. Facilitated technology development within the Center workforce, and sought to enable the Center's technology portfolio and mitigate barriers to innovation. Also served a NASA Agency role in addressing barriers to innovation.

Shared management responsibility and provide leadership for approximately 80 engineers, technicians, and support personnel involved in flight hardware development, integration and testing. Provided development and test capabilities and facilities for flight instruments and hardware, ranging from science missions to International Space Station (ISS) life support systems (ECLSS) and utilization (MSRR, EXPRESS, MSG). Developed hardware testbeds to support proof of concept, breadboard, and subsystem/system validation, including support of avionics and hardware-in-the-loop System Integration Lab (SIL) and System Integration Test Facilities(SITF) for Space Launch System (SLS). Responsible for the Space Systems Integration and Test Facility (Building 4493) and the ECLSS Testbed (Building 4755 North High Bay). Provided design and development of specialized science instruments and payloads through on-site branch at National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC). Supported integration of science payloads for high altitude balloons, sounding rockets, high altitude aircraft, and micro-satellites.

Provided leadership of Space Systems Department (ES) technology development efforts. Managed ES efforts for Technology Investment Program (TIP) and Center Innovation Fund (CIF) solicitations, developed review schedule/approach, helped develop partnerships, coordinated reviews, and supported Engineering Directorate review panel. Monitored Office of Chief Technologist (OCT) opportunities and calls for proposals, encouraged department participation, and provided information/support to department leaders and employees. Supported technology idea development, and coordinated across ES with innovators, branch/division managers, and other leaders. Supported Center Chief Technologist meetings on behalf of the department. Helped develop innovation strategies for the department.

Served as Branch Chief for the Thermal and Mechanical Analysis Branch. Supervised civil service engineers, and held responsibility for work of contractors, involved in multiple disciplines and performing hardware development and analytical modeling. Responsible for technical excellence of products, and served as technical authority, in the following disciplines: Structures (stress, fracture, fatigue); Dynamics (modal, random vibe, acoustics, shock); Thermal (heat transfer, thermal control); ECLSS (includes fluid dynamics and chemical engineering). Provided overall technical direction and management for branch, for work in support of International Space Station (Multi-Purpose Logistics Module (MPLM), ECLSS Water Recovery System (WRS), Materials Science Research Rack (MSRR)), FASTSAT, Robotic Lunar Lander (International Lunar Network) WGTA, Launch Abort System, Ares I Upper Stage (and interface with MPCV), Ares First Stage, Ares I-X, SWEAP, James Webb Space Telescope, Solar Ultraviolet Magnetograph Investigation (SUMI), and other projects. Branch had major responsibility for MPLM verification and issue resolution, and structural/thermal analysis of Ares I Instrument Unit, development of thermal control and vibration isolation for Ares I Avionics, and structural analysis of Ares I Ground Support Equipment. Managed interaction of analysts with designers and test engineers in other branches.
