Mike Vicars is a 1981 Graduate of Liberty Center High School where he played football for the late Jim Meeker. During his senior year in high school the Tigers were 9-2 and earned the school's first ever playoff appearance. Coach Vicars was a fullback and defensive end.Coach Vicars went on to study Industrial Education at Bowling Green State University. In the fall of 1981 he began his coaching career as a Junior High Coach at Liberty Center. In his third year he became a varsity assistant football coach.In 1984 Coach Vicars went on to Delta High School to help Randy Lintermoot as an assistant coach. Upon completing his college degree, Coach Vicars began his head coaching career at Holgate High School at just 23 years old.Overall Coach Vicars has been in coaching for 32 years, 23 of those years as a Varsity Head Football Coach at five different high schools. He has rebuilt four of those five schools, taking 3 of them to the playoff's and winning league championships at four different schools.After the humble beginning of just 5 wins and 45 losses in his first five years. Coach Vicars' teams turned it around going 149 and 56 in the his last 18 years as a head coach. Over those 18 years his teams had just 2 losing seasons, having won 8 league championships, in the OHSAA Playoff's 12 times, and went to the Final Four twice. In the last 10 years his teams have went 102 and 20. While at Genoa High School his teams went 56 and 7, won four Suburban Lakes League Championships, four Toledo Blade Poll Championships, went to the OHSAA Playoff's five straight years, making the final four in 2008. In his last year as a head coach, the Genoa Comets long win streak of 48 straight regular season games came to an end in week 10 in a 9-0 vs. 9-0 showdown with Eastwood. The Comets lost in the final 2 minutes 25 to 23.Mike is now retired as head coach and from education living the good life on Maumee Bay on Lake Erie Oregon Ohio
