The advancement of automotive development has generally paralleled advances in technology, bringing about new & exciting functionalities to the industry. Capabilities such as autonomous vehicles, biometric vehicle access, OnStar, & a host of other advancements are making driving easier, safer & less costly. New fuel sources such as Liquefied Natural Gas and electricity present exciting opportunities in both costs & environmental impact. The complexities of today’s and tomorrow’s automobiles demand individuals who have great diagnostic capabilities and who are highly educated in new automotive technologies.For over 12 years as an automotive technician and instructor I have enthusiastically participated in these advancements. One of the newest innovations, electric propelled automobiles, has been a particular interest of mine. Bloomberg New Energy Forecasts predicts that electric cars (EVs) will jump from today’s 1% of the world market to 35% over the next 20 years, regardless of the price of oil. Besides government subsidies, two other factors are the basis of the prediction …. 1) the rapidly declining cost of batteries which represent the major cost differential with gas powered autos and 2)the lifetime cost of EV’s.Having developed extensive knowledge and experience in automotive maintenance and repair, I truly believe in the future of this technology. Being in a position to assist in advancing this approach, I am interested in helping develop programs and processes to ease the transition to EVs.From both a professional and environmental standpoint, I am excited about being a part of this advancement in one of the basic elements of society. My analytical skills and hands-on experience position me to take an active role in this transformational experience.
