My role is to partner with fund managers / CEO / founders / and executives in areas of technology, science, business, product management, and fundraising. Activities include medical advisory board meetings to identify unmet clinical needs, defining and executing on key development steps, managing achievement of milestones, business derisking, and solving mission critical problems in support of subsequent fundraising rounds and exits. Current portfolio companies of my involvement include Sensoria Therapeutics (Cancer Diagnostics), Curvalign (Pediatric Scoliosis), and Vascular Dynamics (Heart Failure).

AMB Surgical is developing spine and orthopedic implants that grow with kids, eliminating the need for additional traumatic surgeries. Our mission is to improve the predictability of surgical outcomes by offering superior implant reliability, precise post-operative control, and remote data performance analytics. My role is to serve the founders and team by planning and executing in areas of technology, product management, business development, and fundraising.AMB Surgical is now AMB Orthopedics, a portfolio company of a southern California medical device accelerator, IN-Q-CEL.

NSO is the world leader in the development and sales of externally adjustable implant systems for spine and orthopedics. 1. Align technology with business needs by partnering with cross-functional teams and surgeons: • Program manager for investigation of co-development opportunities and strategic investments• Committee leader for review of surgeon concepts from a technology and pipeline fit perspective• Ensure product features and technology maps effectively to IP for both offense and defense2. Lead internal and external teams to develop platform technology for mechatronic implants:• Core areas include motion control, sensors, data communication, power transfer, and wearables• Direct, grow, and coach new NSO team through successful cadaver testing of new implants• Co-developed and implemented novel technology to globally geolocate capital equipment3. Ellipse Technologies, now NSO, had a successful exit to NuVasive in January 2016 for $410MM (10x sales).1. Project leader for mission critical technology development activities for MAGEC and PRECICE products:• Investigated and efficiently resolved field problems with both instruments (targeting) and implants (distraction loss) resulting in a reduction of complaints of 80%, thus building confidence with surgeons and improving sales• Created concept and led development of 1st generation shorter MAGEC actuator (smaller patients) through first in man surgery in 6 months. This style actuator represented > 30% of MAGEC sales in 2017• Led feasibility development of 2nd generation MAGEC implant which included a weldless housing (greater fatigue strength), 6.0 rods (larger patients), and improved power transmission reliability. 2. Lead co-development team of engineers and surgeons to develop world’s first remote control implant to post-operatively adjust both coronal and sagittal balance in the spine. Presented in 2016 SEC filing for Ellipse $75MM IPO. 3. Recipient of 2013 “unobtainium in engineering” award for outstanding practical creativity in solving engineering problems:• Discovered method to eliminate implant lubrication while increasing overall mechanism efficiency by 50%• 7th and only successful engineer on project to successfully eliminate screw capture instrument field problems

Pathway Medical developed world class rotational atherectomy products to clear blockages in leg arteries caused by peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The suite of technologies is currently owned by Boston Scientific. • Lead engineer for development of 3rd generation catheter sheath for peripheral atherectomy device. • Ownership of schedule, meetings, resource management, technical strategy, testing, supplier interface. • Cross functional technical liaison and facilitator for catheter sheath cost reduction effort for 3 core product lines. Achieved 47% reduction in cost per sheath.• Exposure to wide array of catheter technologies in a fast paced mature start-up environment.

IMDS (now CoorsTek) is an industry leading provider of product life-cycle sourcing and strategic business guidance.1. Assisted with spine and orthopedic business development activities to identify collaborative development and partnership opportunities with OEM manufacturers and surgeon inventors.• Feasibility (business case) for projects based on financial potential, review of market literature, intellectual property assessment, and analysis of risk factors (clinical, engineering, regulatory, manufacturing, etc.)• Reviewed in-house products and technologies to suggest value adding features and / or exit strategies• Presented new co-development opportunities to management after investigation with potential partners2. Product development activities included project management, client and surgeon relationship building, patent and market research, defining regulatory strategies, concept modeling (SolidWorks), detailing for fabrication, prototyping, mechanical testing, cadaver lab evaluation, and maintenance of appropriate FDA design controls.3. Project leader for three co-development projects with spine OEM suppliers and surgeon inventors:• Posterior vertebral bone anchors: monolithic and modular threaded designs - improved pushout resistance by 80% and incorporated novel long-term bone ingrowth features• Lateral spine access: redesign of table mounted instrument positioning arm - novel locking articulating joint improved ease of use and increased stability by a factor of eight - two patent applications filed • Lumbar fusion and dynamic stabilization: posterior minimally invasive implant delivery system - designed and tested prototypes for access ports, screw connections, and delivery instrument - industry first simplicity for assembly, removal, and flexibility with type of implants4. Exposure to a wide array of medical device technologies and manufacturing methods.

Collaborated with multidisciplinary international team to develop MIS spine access systems at Swiss owned OEM - surgeons, sales consultants, product managers, regulatory affairs, legal, and manufacturing personnel2. Lead engineer for three concept through production product launches. Coordinated on-site design transfer and quality planning activities at both domestic (West Chester, PA) and international (Switzerland) manufacturing facilities.• Second generation anterior lumbar spine access system used to deliver artificial disc technologies - Clinically driven goals achieved - 70% reduction in set up time and 40% weight reduction• Lightweight radiolucent abdominal retractor blades - They produce an unobstructed view of implants. Implemented novel manufacturing method. • Complete set of anterior spine discectomy instruments for spine arthroscopy

* Collaboration with multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, and engineers to solve basic science problems of biomechanics and biomaterials involving the hip, knee, shoulder, forearm, and spine.* Thesis work (Total hip arthroplasty) - polymer degradation, wear, and host biological response.* Instructor for undergrad senior level hands on mechanical testing laboratory course.
