Assisted with spine and orthopedic business development activities to identify collaborative development and partnership opportunities with OEM manufacturers and surgeon inventors.• Feasibility (business case) for projects based on financial potential, review of market literature, intellectual property assessment, and analysis of risk factors (clinical, engineering, regulatory, manufacturing, etc.)• Reviewed in-house products and technologies to suggest value adding features and / or exit strategies• Presented new co-development opportunities to management after investigation with potential partners2. Product development activities included project management, client and surgeon relationship building, patent and market research, defining regulatory strategies, concept modeling (SolidWorks), detailing for fabrication, prototyping, mechanical testing, cadaver lab evaluation, and maintenance of appropriate FDA design controls.3. Project leader for three co-development projects with spine OEM suppliers and surgeon inventors:• Posterior vertebral bone anchors: monolithic and modular threaded designs - improved pushout resistance by 80% and incorporated novel long-term bone ingrowth features• Lateral spine access: redesign of table mounted instrument positioning arm - novel locking articulating joint improved ease of use and increased stability by a factor of eight - two patent applications filed • Lumbar fusion and dynamic stabilization: posterior minimally invasive implant delivery system - designed and tested prototypes for access ports, screw connections, and delivery instrument - industry first simplicity for assembly, removal, and flexibility with type of implants4. Exposure to a wide array of medical device technologies and manufacturing methods.
