From 1977 -1987 toolmaker.2nd Job toolmaker at Paignton Mould Tools (ceased trading) 1987 - 1997. Promoted to Shop floor manager 1993, then technical manager 1995 – 1997. Introduction and implementation of CNC machinery to the business.Founding partner (with 4 others) Hymid Plastics Technology 1997, this became Hymid Multi Shot Ltd when the business incorporated about 2 years later. Various director titles, Technical Director Oct 2014 – April 2022, then stepped back to Tooling manager (current role) on a 4-day week, 5 days before 65th birthday.Key responsibilities. Mould tool design, manufacture and development through to production. Internal ISO 9001 auditor and for ISO audits of overseas vendors. Selection and management of overseas vendors.Around 2007/8 mould tool manufacture migrated from in house toolroom to Chinese vendors due to commercial pressures. From 2007 to date (break from Jan 2020 – Sept 2022 for Covid) managing the Chinese vendors. Vendor selection (audited and scored), visits for vendor development and tool trials/tool development to export approval. Manufacturing control plans (MCP’s) for China production. Now close on 50 visits with a total of over 3 years spent in China when all added together mostly in the Shenzhen/Dongguan region. This resulting in a good understanding of the culture and methods (strengths and weaknesses) of the Chinese mould tool industry which we consider vital if this resource is to be successfully used.2022 to date, visiting and evaluating UK toolmakers to be able to offer a dual source tool manufacturing option.No plans to retire anytime soon!
