I played a key role in the day to day running of the laboratory building containing nine labs including housekeeping audits and safe shut down at the end of the working day. Based in the lab, I investigated chemical reactions which were initially evaluated for process scale up to produce commercial samples to meet high customer specifications. Further process development work was carried out for process optimization to meet costing and to provide technical packages for process transfer to production.As production trials and manufacturing campaigns were carried out in India and China, I have travelled to both countries to support process transfer and manufacture. Prompt email communication from the UK to foreign manufacturing partners was a key part of successful process transfer, troubleshooting and recommending actions. Analytical skills were developed with the everyday use of GC and new instruments such as GCMS. Also worked closely with QC department in method development and product testing.Was largely responsible for the day to day upkeep of the lab including ordering of chemicals. Good housekeeping skills for working in the lab safely and passing audits were shown.I continued to develop skills in process scale up, including awareness of process safety assessment, process operability and factors affecting scale-up.

I initially operated a lab scale diazomethane reactor as part of a team, which was developed into a continuous pilot plant reactor and larger scale main plant version. Became fully trained and competent in the operation of the pilot plant continuous diazomethane reactor, a core company technology and smaller model of main plant. Was the main chemist to investigate all new enquiries requiring diazomethane work and carried out the majority of the custom synthesis project work to provide samples. Succesfully led a small team including plant operators on two challenging pilot plant campaigns, requiring four chemical steps, to manufacture 10kg of material. Clearly communicated detailed shift handovers for overnight process operators to safely and effectively carry out plant operations, critical to meet tight customer deadlines. I gained extensive knowledge and understanding of complete commercial processes to become a valuable troubleshooting resource for the production department.

Performed microwave extractions of soil samples for organic content. Operated to GMP and GLP standard.Followed standard operating procedures. Worked late and at weekends to deliver important results for clients.
