ENFPInput | Learner | Developer | Maximizer | EmpathyPromoterI left behind a 15 year career in technology (and a Top Secret security clearance) because I wanted to make a bigger impact. I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. At 19, I left Cleveland to join the Marines. After five years, and 2 tours in Iraq, I decided to try my hand at civilian life, which led to 10 years at the National Security Agency, both in contract and DoD Civilian positions. Somewhere along the way, I started feeling like I wasn't doing enough. In spite of what may have seemed to be the "smart" career move at the time, I wanted to shift my focus away from technology and toward people and communities. I decided to use my GI bill and go to college, and despite my "just OK" performance in high school, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Organizational Development. Then, at the urging of a friend, I applied for the Alexander Briseño Leadership Development Program through the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This was a truly pivotal, life-altering experience, and set me on a path that would eventually lead to me taking the biggest risk of my life: quitting my job, and moving my family half way across the country, only to plant my flag and exclaim loudly "I'm Mike, and I'm here to help."My risk paid off, though not without the incredible support of my wife, our family, and many close friends and mentors. I wake up every day and help passionate people take leaps of faith into careers they deserve, but from which they have long been excluded. I have the privilege of advocating loudly for Economic Equity in our communities, and for the benefits of a diverse workforce. I work with an incredible team of people across the country who care SO MUCH about the right things that it's impossible not to notice. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I can keep trying to be a little bit better each and every day. Want to talk about your career? Military transition?
