Mike is an Associate Ecologist, an experienced marine and terrestrial fauna consultant, ornithologist, bat biologist, and marine mammal specialist, providing robust strategic advice, guidance, mitigation solutions and fauna-related training packages for multinational clients, governments, and regulators. Projects: terrestrial and offshore operation delivery; construction; renewables (fixed and floating wind, tidal, wave and solar); seismic; dredging; conservation. Responsibilities: provision of robust specialist advice and guidance on all fauna-related issues (particularly, but not exclusively, on ornithology and bats) to government, developers, and regulators at local, regional and national level, provision of key legislative / policy requirements and technical knowledge of environmental and ecological issues; knowledge of regulatory frameworks and management and delivery of ecological assessment projects; mitigation planning and delivery; assurance and validation of contractor activities; preparation of ecology management plans, policies and procedures; extensive experience in preparation and delivery of fauna-related training materials; conducting offshore and onshore ecology surveys using industry-standard methodologies; report writing; preparing technical assessments (including HRA and EIA casework assessment); undertaking ecological surveys for terrestrial and offshore developers.Skillset: demonstrable experience in ornithology surveys (ESAS certified); bat surveys (NE levels 3&4 licence holder); Marine Mammal Observer mitigation (MMO & PAM); environmental and marine fauna surveys; phase 1 habitat, Preliminary Ecological Assessment and reptile surveys; animal rescue, rehab and relocation.He is an:● Experienced ornithological consultant and surveyor (breeding bird, protected species, offshore) ● Experienced JNCC accredited ESAS (European Seabirds At Sea) surveyor [over 8000 hours]● Experienced JNCC accredited MMO (Marine Mammal Observer) [over 12000 hours]● Qualified and experienced PAM (Passive Acoustic Monitoring) operator● Experienced BOEM accredited PSO (Protected Species Observer) for Gulf of Mexico (including cetaceans, manatees and turtles)● Natural England licensed bat worker (Class Licence Levels 3&4)● RYA Powerboat Level 2 (coastal) certified● Published wildlife photographer● Certified in Ecological Consultancy (with Distinction)He is also available to deliver illustrated (and hopefully engaging!) talks, presentations and training on cetacean and bird ID and as a wildlife guide on cruise ships.
