The Earth to me is a living, breathing organism. Nature is made up of the systems and processes that sustain the biosphere. The earth has proven to be less fragile than individual species that are involved in the systems and processes that keep the earth alive. Humans have contributed to altering these processes and we have had a substantial impact on altering the world’s ecosystems. Therefore, it is our responsibility to manage and control the use of natural resources below the threshold at which the earth can regenerate them. It is also important to understand how people value these resources to make informed decisions on what is best for the long-term future of the planet and how the business industry fits into these processes. My primary objective is to contribute to advancing sustainability planning through education and leading by example. I look to do this by applying my knowledge and experience to affect real change through informed decisions, sound scientific techniques, and interdisciplinary cooperation. The greatest goal of my academic and professional career is to positively influence the cultural perceptions of biodiversity. Educating children and adults on the significance of human impacts to native wild habitats is vitally important for the future health of ecosystems around the world. Humans are increasingly understanding interactions between themselves and their environments, so we as a civilized species need to learn to use only those resources we need and to maintain the proper balance in resource availability for all species.
