About Mike Casey

I’m the president and founder of Tigercomm, the leading U.S. cleantech PR, marketing communications and public affairs firm. I counsel cleantech executives and investors, and my passion for the last 39 years has been designing, building, running or being a part of winning communications programs. I might be the luckiest person on LinkedIn, because I get to focus on scaling clean economy companies while working with amazing colleagues and inspiring clients. Along the way, we’ve helped >180 companies turbocharge sales, build brands, attract investments, win the social license to build projects, and secure fair policies that build markets. I post a lot here on LinkedIn, co-host Renewable Energy World's weekly news roundup and interview clean economy leaders for "Scaling Clean, the Podcast For Clean Economy CEOs, Investors and the People Who Advise Them."Specialties: Public relations, marketing communications, thought leadership, community engagement, public affairs, digital media, traditional media, clean energy, solar, wind energy, battery storage, cleantech, media training, attention generation, sustainability, environment.

  • Tigercomm
    President
    Tigercomm Jun 2004 - Present
    Tysons Corner, Virginia, Us
I started Tigercomm as a sole consultancy and fostered its growth into the top cleantech marcom and public affairs firm in the U.S., with headquarters in Northern Virginia and offices in Tampa, Denver, Pittsburgh, Charlottesville and Los Angeles. I spend my time helping our staff deliver hands-on service, growing our business and doing some account work to keep my skills sharp. I’ve trained over 2,200 people on message development, media interviewing and public relations management.
  • Environmental Working Group
    Vice President For Public Affairs
    Environmental Working Group 1998 - 2004
    Washington, District Of Columbia, Us
I built and ran a communications program of six people that made this watchdog group "...dollar for dollar, demonstrably one of the most effective groups in Washington” (National Journal, 2/25/02). We got five dangerous pesticides banned, exposed wasteful farm subsidies and convinced DuPont to cease using its cancer-causing Teflon ingredient. And, we forced ABC “reporter” John Stossel into the only on-air apology of his career for fabricating test results to attack organic food.
  • National Environmental Trust
    Media Relations Director
National Environmental Trust Feb 1995 - Mar 1999
I co-created and co-directed NET’s communications department of eight people, that won 22 straight issue campaigns. We secured the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments and the 1996 Clean Air Act Amendments. We generated 4,500 local and 100 national news stories, helped attract increased funding that expanded the organization’s staff from five to 50 and revitalized the national environmental community’s media influence during the late 1990s.
  • Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
    Communications Director
    Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee 1994 - 1994
I developed and managed the national communications strategy for the DCCC while supporting media on roughly 30 congressional elections. I managed a staff of five, and I was the principal spokesman for the committee during one of the toughest political years for Democrats in modern political history.
  • U.S. Senator Donald Riegle (Michigan)
    Communications Director
U.S. Senator Donald Riegle (Michigan) Mar 1991 - Dec 1993
I built and managed Senator Riegel’s press department of six people, while serving as his principal spokesman. I created, planned and executed state events that consistently generated wide media coverage. I helped position the Senator as national leader on trade and Gulf War Syndrome (his work on that issue was later featured in the 1998 movie, “Thanks of a Grateful Nation”). We increased the Senator's approval rating by 20 points and cut his disapproval rating in half.
  • Clinton-Gore `92
    Michigan Deputy Communications Director
    Clinton-Gore `92 Aug 1992 - Nov 1992
  • Congressman Terry Bruce
    Press Secretary
Congressman Terry Bruce Jun 1989 - Mar 1991
  • Dukakis-Bentsen `88
    Ohio Deputy Press Secretary
    Dukakis-Bentsen `88 Feb 1988 - Nov 1988
