Partial discharge is a localised breakdown of insulation that does not completely bridge the insulation medium. Detecting PD provides an early indication of potential insulation failure prior to a catastrophic event. PD is responsible for around 80% of all failures in HV equipment and cables. We survey switchgear, transformers, machines and cables using a combination of advanced techniques to establish the condition of the insulation.
