As the general technologist (role, not title), I ran the Linux and OpenBSD servers, maintained their workstation, laptop and server hardware, did web development (CSS, XHTML, Javascript), and planned projects. I ran the DNS and DHCP server, the firewall, network switches, and routers, Subversion and Apache servers, etc. I supported the users: medical illustrators, sound and video engineers, writers, 3D animators, game designers, graphic artists, hard core programmers. I worked on their Win2k, XP and Mac OS X systems. Great place to work, great people, facinating and meaningful work. Saddly, the pay couldn't support our family for long.

Software Test Engineer/Test Lab ManagerMicrosoft Jan 2003 - Feb 2005Redmond, Washington, UsWhat it was:Initially, I designed and managed the construction of a large software testing lab at the Lebanon, NH office of Microsoft's Mappoint business unit. After we finished building it, I was put in charge of running it for the 90+ developers and testers in that facility and in the Redmond offices. We usually had right around 120 servers up and running at all times, in sets of 15 laid out as mock ups of the entire MapPoint web service, including all nine of the SQL Server databases.In addition, I was the primary tester and documentation author for the installation and setup of the MapPoint Web Service applications and databases and was also the primary setup and installation tester for all of the backend applications and databases in the system.Great people, good pay, decent company. Left for a really interesting opportunity elsewhere. -
