I'm Mike Ellis, co-director of a digital agency called Thirty8 Digital and founder of The Museum Platform. At Thirty8, we provide web consultancy, web sites, ideas and training. We work all over the UK with museums, heritage organisations, universities, research councils, small businesses and not for profits.The Museum Platform is a new and highly innovative tool for museums which enables museums to tell their stories with ease: "A beautiful, engaging and integrated way to get your museum and collections online."I'm interested in how digital tools and strategic approaches to content and audiences can be used to enable museums and other cultural heritage organisations to tell their stories. I'm particularly interested in how organisations (particularly those which are traditionally quite slow at embracing new approaches to technology) can be empowered to do so.From 2011 - present I have been running a small digital studio called Thirty8 Digital. We work with some of the most exciting and innovative UK museums, helping them with strategy, training and web design and development. In 2020 I founded The Museum Platform with Jeremy Ottevanger and Rob Tice, an innovative platform to enable museums to get their collections and stories online as quickly, cheaply and easily as possible.From 2012 - 2016 I was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Leicester, working on their groundbreaking Digital Heritage MA course. From 2007 - June 2011 I worked for a Bath-based company called Eduserv who were a not for profit IT company. I worked within the Research & Innovation Group, looking at new technologies and how these impact on the way we communicate and collaborate. From 2000-2007 I was Head of Web for The Science Museum in London. Before that I was Production Manager at Waterstone's Online; prior to that, I ran a small business providing web and print design consultancy.I live in Cornwall with my wife and two sons.Specialties: Digital content strategy, innovation, policy, web applications, user experience, public speaking, writing, training...
