Beta Test Manager - Global3Com Corporation Oct 1994 - Aug 2001Marlborough, Ma, UsAt the time of my departure from 3Com, I was the global Beta Test Manager, serving the entire corporation, supervising testing for all divisions on three continents and reporting to the Chief Quality Officer. This included testing products of all types from large enterprise equipment to consumer products.Hired initially to support the technical operations of Megahertz Corporation's top clients, I was moved into engineering to supervise the beta test program. I did technical assessment of the product, management of the bugs and the tester relationships. Alone in this position, I designed and executed multiple tests. Megahertz was acquired by USR which was then acquired by 3Com. In each acquisition, our beta test practices were adopted by our new parent company. Over seven years, I grew the team from myself to nine people conducting projects for the entire company. My program was so successful that former employees would solicit us to conduct projects. I designed an entire web infrastructure and created an internal business called "Beta Test Services" that generated revenue for 3Com over a year.In my experience, I gathered expertise in a variety of technologies. I was deeply involved in the initial deployment of V.92, Bluetooth, DSL, Cable, 802.11x, VoIP and numerous other standards in software and hardware. I was also heavily involved in the Internet and it's early evolution. I was granted two U.S. Patents and a member of the corporate quality team. -
Systems EngineerMegahertz Corporation May 1993 - Oct 1994I worked as the technical sales contact in a partnership with a sales person in the Mid-Atlantic region. My job was to provide advanced technical support, inventory replenishment, systems maintenance and customer relationship management to Fortune 500 companies across the eastern United States. I regularly traveled to corporate locations to help with modem and networking technology deployments for their large IT organizations. While traveling I was regularly asked to attend trade shows across the United States to provide technical assistance to trade show operations. In addition to my role in corporate deployments, I worked closely with sales and channel partners to help in the effective roll-out of sales inside clients. Projects included working with the Department of Defense, government programs and the medical vertical market. After one and a half years in the position, I was promoted into Engineering to run beta testing because of my advanced technical skills and ability to work with customers. Megahertz was eventually acquired by US Robotics and then 3Com. I not only retained my position but was continually given beta testing responsibility by the parent company and its subsidiaries.
