About Michael Gardner

Mike is a senior marketing executive, currently working with The newly formed Motley Fool Foundation. Prior, Mike served as the Chief People Officer and Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Millennial Media, a Mobile advertising platform located in Baltimore, Maryland. In his role, he was responsible for overseeing all HR-related functions while also doubling the size of the company’s talent during its IPO.A seasoned professional marketer, his experience includes roles as Brand Strategist and Consultant for the Verizon Brand Global Launch, Director of Marketing Digital Services at AOL, and Senior Manager of Enterprise Product Development at Discovery Communications.He has served twice as the president of the DC chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMADC), Three-term board member and chairman of AMA’s 2017 National Nonprofit Marketing Conference, and has served as a member of the AMA National Professional Chapters Council (PCC). The co-founders of Motley Fool Holdings Inc., David and Tom Gardner, have created a public charity to further the mission of the company they formed with a vision to make the world smarter, happier and richer. And now, following 2 years of an extensive research process, we are excited to announce the official launch of The Motley Fool Foundation, today, April 1, 2022. 

The Financial Health Network revealed that two thirds of Americans are financially vulnerable or coping. That means should an unplanned expense occur, such as a health incident or worse, a global pandemic-2 out of every 3 people would not be able to financially manage that challenge. For almost 30-years, The Motley Fool has helped millions of people change their life’s financial trajectory and become financially healthy. Now, through the Motley Fool Foundation we will place our attention on the other two thirds of our country and help pave an equitable pathway toward Financial Freedom for all. 
There are five key drivers that enable financial freedom: education, health, money, work, and housing. The Motley Fool Foundation believes that when they work together, people advance financially.  However, it is not easy for everyone as many are left behind. The Foundation’s goal is to change mindset at the organizational and individual levels, working to remove barriers to enable systematic change, and give more people access to short-term and long-term financial resources, so they will have the ability to make important life choices.Imagine the possibilities of what our society could become if every person could have equitable access to the critically important financial, education, health, housing and employment systems, and that the existing barriers and roadblocks to these systems were removed.
