I won 8 elections to serve 4 terms in the California legislature, where I chaired the Appropriations, Consumer Protection & Privacy, and Utilities & Commerce committees, served for 7 years on the Banking & Finance committee, and presided over sessions as Assistant Speaker. As chair of Appropriations, I determined billions in spending each year. As chair of Consumer Protection & Privacy, I was involved in several innovative initiatives involving technology and cybersecurity. As chair of Utilities & Commerce, I guided landmark utility and energy policy and regulatory reforms. Along the way, I developed substantial expertise in each of those areas. And I authored 55 measures that became law, including several landmark pieces of legislation. Now I provide political and corporate intelligence, and I advise on how to achieve government outcomes. In my legal career, I've achieved successful outcomes in high-stakes cases before the CA Court of Appeal, the CA Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. My firm is a full-service firm.I previously served as a Congressional Chief of Staff, and in the administrations of 3 Los Angeles mayors. I also serve on various boards, which mean a lot to me: LACERA (the Los Angeles County pension fund), the A-Mark Foundation, the legislative Problem Solvers Caucus, and OSSML. In 2017, I served as the Legislator in Residence and a Professor at USC. In 2018-19, I was Senior Fellow at UCLA Luskin.
