CurrentDeveloping a regional consortium to build a "smart city" roadmap for northeast Ohio. Focus on broadband energy mobility and data/app development. Also need to develop sector networks: corporate, education, government, non-profits, citizens. How do we design and build the "virtual northeast Ohio", the 15th largest economy in the United States?We are much in need of a 21st century infrastructure or what you might call a "regional operating system". Though written in 2019, the following is still very applicable:"Motivated by a vision of ubiquitous, smart infrastructure, systems, and services, many cities and communities view advances in networking and information technology as a way to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality of life for their residents.They seek to become “smart cities” and “smart communities” by embedding new digital technologies into their infrastructure, systems, and services to enhance existing, and develop new, city/community resources. Smart city/community solutions are intended to enable new capabilities and opportunities—all in the face of limited budgets.
