I'm a mental health Occupational Therapist. I started out providing psychotherapy to traumatised and suicidal kids. Great learning, but many sleepless nights. In 2013, I went to London for a variety of mental health roles. Played pool with convicted psychopaths, connected with chronic ice users and met people on locked wards who addressed me as their child or partner. An interesting few years. But something became clear: 'mental health' services in the West don't work. I set out to understand why.I kept working in the field and at every spare moment I read. I read for hours every day, I mean, I was obsessed, for about 2.5 years. With a single obsessional focus for 2.5 years, you can learn a lot!I started a mental health clinic, delivering what I'd learned. We've built an amazing team, and we continue to deliver what works: EMDR, graded exposure, gut health, exercise etc.Fast forward a few years, and I saw an amazing product: a retractable shade sail that could cover an entire swimming pool! Very cool!I enquired, but the supplier at that time was overpriced, terrible customer experience, super complicated installation. But they'd had the monopoly for 20+ years, so they weren't motivated to do better.Could I do better? Challenge accepted! It took over 3 years of R&D, 40+ talented contractors and almost $1mill, to build out every aspect of an amazing product and business. At ShadeSpot™ we make the only large spanning retractable shade sail in the world that can be DIY installed. We're national (soon to be international) and we save our customers thousands in installation costs. We're having fun packaging it with great customer service, automation and AI software, an augmented reality app etc.www.shadespot.com.au/introSoon I'll have enough money to open a super clinic to cure treatable mental illnesses via means that are unprofitable, and thus ignored by the powers that be in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.Spending millions to create a clinic that works, but loses hundreds of thousands of dollars each year?!Challenge accepted! But one thing at a time.Life is about good relationships, working towards a goal and enjoying the ride.If you agree, then let's connect.Mike
