Laboratory Technician Ii
CurrentAs a quality control lab technician, I ensure the quality of our products are within the desired specifications for our customers. I employ a wide range of tests to analyze samples of the raw materials we receive, our in-process products, finished products, and product shipments. The information I gather through testing and further analysis is relayed to the control room over the phone if urgent, then I enter the data into MES and/or SAP. Tests ran mainly via wet chemistry methods – titrations, Karl-Fischer testing, pH testing, color tests, COD testing, metals testing, NIR spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and HPLC. 12-hour shifts, many 48 hour weeks and even some 60 hour weeks.Reagent prep and standardizations of those reagents play a big role in keeping the lab running smoothly, which is my duty as a lab tech to keep all equipment stocked with sufficient reagents and calibrated so operations run smoothly. Sample storage and disposal are also one of my key responsibilities in this role, which include filing away samples in designated areas depending on whether they came from reactors, tanks, or trucks. I then properly dispose of older samples as either flammable waste or hazardous liquid waste once we no longer have to hold on to them. Contracted via Randstad staffing agency – bought out of contract early and hired on full-time by Nouryon in September 2022.
