I grew up as an athlete and am thus a very passionate competitor. Not the kind that can ruin a casual card game of "Fish", but I certainly love winning and have a distaste for losing. To some extent this defines me in business. Certainly sporty and fun-loving, but underneath I have this passion for the products, matched with a drive and competitiveness to increase sales and improve profit. And the only way I know how to accomplish it is by having a team that works harder and smarter than others.I’ve spend most of my career in consumer products and for the last 7 years as President. I’ve been a part of a lot of fantastic products at companies like Nike, Juiceman, O’Brien, Rogue, and the Essential Baking Company. I’ve certainly learned a lot about people, both customers and employees; and learned a lot about running a business. In terms of my perspective on leadership and what it takes to supercharge the performance of an organization, I’ve become a huge fan of "integrated accountability systems" and the impact they can have on organizations. By that I mean benchmarking/metrics, agreed-to departmental plans that include measureable expected results, all tied to the management bonus system. People like knowing exactly what’s expected of them. When they know, and when there are measureable results, they naturally want to get it done and improve the numbers. And when they do so, they are happier.
