I filled a six-month contract position on ICBC's UNIX Administration team. In this position I was part of a 6-person team responsible for a wide array of ICBC's internal and customer-facing systems.I gained valuable experience and familiarity with the Oracle Solaris operating system, as well as plenty of hands-on work with Oracle's M3000 and M5000 series rackmount servers. I also got my hands dirty with the vSphere virtualization environment and the Veritas storage framework in high-volume SAN applications.

I spent just over a year as the sole sysadmin at CGTV Games, a small software and web-gambling startup based in Downtown Vancouver. In this capacity I was responsible for the upkeep of a diverse set of systems, including Linux, BSD and Solaris servers at datacenters located in Vancouver, London, and Panama.I was frequently tapped for more general IT work as well. I routinely handled domain registrations, ARIN/WHOIS information changes, and SSL certificate maintenance tasks, as well as more general desktop support and administration for the staff's workstations and office network.

In the NOC at Parasun/IBBS West, I was part of a team responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the networks and servers supporting Cable Internet and VoIP providers across the US and Canada. It was a great position to learn in, full of new skills to pick up and problems to solve, especially in configuring and troubleshooting services on Cisco IOS and GNU/Linux systems, which made up the majority of our work.I also had the opportunity to lead a series of teleconferenced 'Webinar' training sessions, instructing cable providers and their staff in the use of our OSS4 software.

I started at Parasun in the Support department, where I assisted residential and business Internet subscribers on the phone and via email, to troubleshoot problems with their service. I gained extensive experience in troubleshooting network, browsing and email issues on Windows and Apple desktops, as well as in handling customer relations issues and resolving complaints.My Linux expertise made me a unique resource in the 'Techpit,' and I was frequently called upon to resolve issues and train others in the use of the department's Fedora Core workstations.
