Mike Luther has four decades of experience in cross-border corporate finance & special situation investments. His focus is private equity and venture capital transactions from $1 million to over $1 billion. Mr. Luther's domain expertise is energy, industrial, and technology sectors. Present projects include renewable energy, natural gas, helium, fusion/fision power, medical/pharma, mining, industrial, consumer, IP, and carbon sequestration. After obtaining a degree from University of Maryland in 1981, Mr. Luther worked for noted Harvard Business School professor, Dr. Jack Zwick on corporate finance, credit/risk management and project finance. Mr Luther advised the World Bank, the IMF, Citibank, Chase, Westpac, RBC, KIA, GIC, & Asian banks. Luther assisted Citicorp's FIG on post-crisis & developing market projects in the US, South Korea, the Gulf region, Jamaica and other parts of the world. Mr. Luther was active with Artificial Intelligence (AI) during the 1980's on political risk, credit policy, & project finance. In 1989, Mr. Luther worked on the RJR Nabisco LBO. Mr. Luther advised the largest shareholder of VF Corp. on a leveraged recapitalization. Mr. Luther worked for an affiliate of Mutual Of Omaha in the 1990′s. He led a $55 million MBO of Transaction System Architects that produced a $1 billion Goldman Sachs IPO valuation. Mr. Luther & his partner, Dan Koch, were the largest pre-institutional shareholders of Move, Inc., owner of realtor.com. In early 2002, Mr. Luther & Paddy Shanahan launched Deutsche Bank's North American Special Situations ("NASS") group. The venture involved originating structured investments directly with Bank capital and co-investors. The Alamo National Car Rental purchase with Cerberus was the largest transaction originated by the Luther/Shanahan. In addition to automotive, investments were made in the telecom and direct marketing/BPO sectors. Subsequently, Mr. Luther & Mr. Shanahan developed a cross-border private equity business with Deutsche Bank's Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management's (DeAWM) Aggregator in London. Messrs. Luther and Shanahan originated investments within industrial, natural resource and mining sectors. Since 2015, Mr. Luther's focus has been on deep value & venture investments in industrial, asset management and insurance (FIG), mobility, technology, natural resource, mining, transportation and energy/renewable sectors. Mr. Luther is active in deep value, pre-IPO, and growth company transactions in the USA, Europe and other parts of the world.
