I have always been active in the communities where I've lived. In Spokane, I've been a graduate of Leadership Spokane, a member of the Marine Corps League, the Spokane Parks Foundation Finance Committee and Operation Spokane Heroes. I 've also been a mentor in the Vets Forum, served as President of the local Sister Cities International Board and am past-President of the Spokane Valley Rotary. I am an Honorary Commander with the 141st ARW at Fairchild AFB and also am a guest lecturer at the Gonzaga University MBA program.Some other positions have included being a graduate of Leadership Tri-Cities (WA), Chair of the Richland, WA, Economic Development Commission, President of the Anchorage Museum of History and Art Board, Chair of Alaska Public Television and Treasurer of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce.

I had the honor and privilege to serve as an infantry platoon commander with Delta 1/3 and Lima 3/5 in Vietnam. I went from the DMZ to An Hoa. Upon returning to CONUS, I was selected to play for the Quantico Marines football team, traveling around the country to help recruit new Marines. I later served as the Public Affairs Officer for the Marine Corps Development and Education Command (MCDEC) at Quantico, a Schools Demonstration Troops platoon commander, an 81mm platoon commander and infantry company commander.My tenure as a grunt platoon commander in Vietnam was the high point of my life in terms of the high quality, caliber and character of the gentlemen for whom I was responsible. No other position since has come anywhere close to providing the level of satisfaction, camaraderie or respect I gained from those times. I hold my troops close to my heart even today...
