I am a creative technologist who has been designing professionally for 18+ years. With a BFA in graphic design, I possess the mindset and skills of a traditional designer with a great passion for typography. As an accomplished designer, I have been featured in design magazines and books. I've also given talks about some of my design projects.With a desire for continuous learning, I've pivoted from print to digital and established myself as a subject expert in UI, UX, and accessibility. Over the past 13 years, I've led the design for multiple digital products. A mobile CMS, a musician career platform, and an e-learning/soft skills training platform to name a few. More recently, I have been leading and architecting a design system that powers 7 corporate websites, building 34 components along the way. My employers ranged from small startups to agencies to large software companies.I gained my technical skills through years of experience working closely with front-end engineers. I specialize in semantic HTML and modern CSS, which are the tools that allow me to design and build accessible websites and web apps. Due to my unique designer coder hybrid skillset, I am able to take something from the conceptual stage all the way to final implementation. I've worked with engineering teams small (5) and large (20+), in various codebases such as React, Ruby on Rails, Node, and Drupal. I have experience using popular front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Foundation, and Tailwind. However, I prefer not to use these frameworks as they created too much of an abstraction, preventing one from learning the foundation of the web and basic accessibility.My goal is to continue to mentor and educate designers and developers on accessible design. Accessibility is not a feature, it is a right. The web should be for everyone to enjoy.
