Became Acoustics Ambassador to focus on selling the integrated specialty acoustical ceiling and lighting systems in the commercial architectural market. Focal Point's portfolio includes several award-winning systems: Mora, AirCore Bridge, Seem Acoustic, Nivo and Ori.

Led Product Management function at Focal Point, a Legrand architectural lighting brand since acquisition in February 2020. Responsible for the performance of the core lighting portfolio and new product innovations. Also led Focal Point's Architectural Systems business unit, a rapidly-growing, disruptive acoustic lighting and integrated ceiling system venture, from concept through ramp-up to maturity.

Developed and led New Ventures function at Focal Point. Used Lean Startup methodology to incubate and accelerate new concepts. The most successful offshoot was the integrated acoustics and lighting systems business unit.

Co-founder, Managing Partner at the Alva Group, a consulting firm that contracted with large research institutions (NASA, Air Force, national laboratories and universities) and their partners to help transition publicly-funded technologies into the private market. Developed successful and on-going student programs, and helped secure dozens of IP licenses.

Co-founded the Commercialization Academy startup accelerator at the Air Force Research Laboratory in partnership with Griffiss Institute in 2014. It began as a student / researcher accelerator program with $50,000 in prize money and by 2018, the Academy grew to $500K in total prizes. Our program helped secure dozens of DoD technology licenses.

TechLink is a partner organization for the Department of Defense based at Montana State University that handles licensing and commercial support for the DoD.

EIR for the ThINCubator business accelerator in NY.

Active mentor and guest lecturer for the UIC Technology Ventures Program. Helped technology startups license IP from UIC and national laboratories, including Argonne, Oak Ridge and NASA. Traveled with and coached a dozen UIC startups at international business competitions, helping teams win $200K+ in prizes.

P&L for a market-leading, B2B food processing (mechanical separation) product line. Helped lead the integration of an international competitor acquisition in 2012.

Co-founded HeartSounds, a startup specializing in the development of advanced software algorithms that help improve medical diagnostic capabilities. Launched in 2007, HeartSounds licensed IP from UIC and subsequently developed medical devices for varied cardiology applications. Secured multiple rounds of investment and won numerous awards. Exited in 2011.

Global Market Manager for Celsis (now Charles River Laboratories) rapid detection product line.

5+ years as an engineer in the Advanced Technology group of Abbott Global Pharmaceutical R&D (now AbbVie), including electrical design, software development, robotics and image processing. Goal of the team was to improve the efficiency and throughput of the Drug Discovery process, along with expanding discovery capabilities. Won Abbott’s Early Impact Award in 2004.
