QuickTrac is the next generation of SaaS business productivity tools driving real-time performance management. This service dramatically improves customer profits and productivity in service-focused industries and drives the effective use of billable and revenue generating time. My accomplishments included:• Transitioning from a “garage” startup to a company with a solid base in the automotive service. • Increasing customer productivity from 10% to 40% and growing customer base to +130 customers• Developing a fundamental patent on web and mobile-based work tracking.

PropertyRadar provides real-time cloud-based big data services for real estate professionals, investors, governments, and others needing the latest property data, research tools, and near real-time data and analytics to enable critical investment decision-making. When the ForeclosureRadar was formed in 2007, I consulted for the CEO to drive key technical and architectural decisions for ForeclosureRadar and recruited talent to build a product team. In 2012 I joined the team on an interim basis to run engineering, operations, product management, and QA to as the company became PropertyRadar.In 2012-2013, I improved development output 30-40%, resolved key product and technical barriers, implemented a QA function, and established SCRUM-based development which moved PropertyRadar from a “proof-of-concept” to the release of a new product for 12,000 existing and future customers. PropertyRadar is a rich HTML5 web/tablet application with a robust data infrastructure including NoSQL, SOLR and a LAMP stack running on the Amazon AWS.

Streetline provides sensor-driven parking data via an “Internet of Things” that enables real-time parking availability data for mobile devices and tools to maximize city revenue. My team delivered solutions for NYC, LA, DC, Indianapolis, and many other cities. Streetline was acquired by Kapsch. Accomplishments include:• Directing product development including technical strategy and requirements, design, software, sensors/hardware development, quality, and operations. • Transforming Streetline’s prototype technology into production solutions with the world’s largest deployed wireless mesh network sensor system for cities, including all of downtown Los Angeles, which increases parking space revenue +100%.• Releasing multiple versions of “Parker” on IOS and Android – winning the Edison Award.• Delivering ParkEdge, a portal for parking policy, pricing, availability, and advertising.• Developing ParkSight, a parking analytics solution using Ruby on Rails.• Building partnerships with IBM, Siemens, Xerox, Nokia, and CitiBank.

SView’s SmartMessage is a platform solution where mobile applications are developed and deployed on both Smart and Feature phones on all major carriers in hours, rather than months. This Java-based system provides interactive mobile app development via a GUI and RESTful Web services interface for iPhone, Android, Symbian, J2ME, and other mobile operating systems. Responsible for operations and technical activities including product management, design, development, quality, operations, and customer support with development in the US, China, and Taiwan. My accomplishments include:• Developing and launching SmartMessage – a scalable AWS Cloud-based solution supporting millions of users for IOS, Android, Symbian, and J2ME.• Deploying SmartMessage in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Mexico and the USA with major carriers and customers including AT&T, Amazon, Air China, Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile.

BabyCenter is the premier destination on the web for new mothers, dads, and mothers-to-be - 78% of all new US mothers (up from 56% since joining) use BabyCenter as their primary web resource with professional content, strong mom-to-mom social media, and world-class ecommerce. J&J has received over twelve Webby awards for BabyCenter. I was recruited in early 2006 to develop BabyCenter 2.0 during a period of executive leadership transition (3 chief executives in 2 years). I was responsible for all of development, QA, PM, ad operations, and development operations. My accomplishments include:• Launching BabyCenter 2.0, a robust Java-based Web 2.0 social media and commerce solution.• Delivering a no downtime at cutover (load at ~300 MB/S & ~40,000 simultaneous users). • Replacing 99% of previous existing code base with an open source Java-based solution.• Installing Scrum processes at BabyCenter as well as other J&J teams.• Creating the vision and driving the development of a proprietary Relevancy Engine.– – – described in “Collective Intelligence in Action” Manning Press.• Replacing ecommerce systems and worked with other J&J operations to deploy similar solutions.• Doubling the development team in less than 6 months while upgrading overall team skill levels.• Increasing engineered and OPs productivity 2-5 fold via platform and process improvements.

Deem/Rearden Commerce provides SaaS services for policy-managed employee business services – including Expedia-like travel, international package shipping with competitive rate shopping (FEDEX, UPS, and others) and private rate management, web/audio conferencing, dining, and other service. I was responsible for engineering, QA, development operations, IT, and customer support. Accomplishments include:• Driving 3 major releases that provided significant increases in features and performance – 4X reduction in incremental COGS, and a 3.5X improvement in performance.• Growing development from 29 to 78 associates, and developing an India-based offshore team.• Delivering a Java-based travel service with integral corporate policy management. After Icarian (below) I was recruited by the same VCs to join the Confluent team where I was responsible for engineering, quality, program management, training, customer support, and professional services. Confluent provides Web services middleware for HTTP, JMS, and MQ transports supporting LDAP and WS-Security. My accomplishments include:• Transitioning the prototype Confluent Web Services management product to an enterprise production-quality Java-based solution and building the Customer and Professional Services team.• Directing efforts that resulted in wins at Cisco (site license), Merrill Lynch, Hartford and others. • Completing a successful series B funding in 2003 and a liquidity event.

Responsible for product management, development, operations, and services with a team of 84. Accomplishments include: • Launching products for job candidate/company relationship, screening, hiring, and reporting.• Increasing referenceable customers from 3% to 97%. • Driving service uptime from 96% to 99.94%.• Transforming products with new technologies including XML, J2EE, WebLogic, Business Objects, ...• Eliminating non-strategic development resources resulting in direct savings of over $3 million/year. • Driving successful execution that enabled $24 M of venture funding and a successful liquidity event.

Responsible for all consumer and professional imaging and video product development at Adobe including Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, ImageReady, and PhotoDeluxe.My responsibilities grew by a factor of two at which point I led the largest product development group at Adobe with a team of ~220 and seven groups located in San Jose, Seattle, and Minneapolis. My accomplishments include:• Reducing development for Photoshop from 24-28 to a 9-month cycle for 5.5 and 12 months for 6.0.• Producing eight award-winning releases of imaging and video products including: Photoshop 5.5, 6.0; Photoshop LE 5.0; ImageReady 2.0, 3.0; Premiere 5.1, 6.0; PhotoDeluxe, After Effects 4.0, 4.1.• Winning numerous best-of-class awards from Windows Magazine, PC Magazine, MacWorld, ...• Driving and supporting acquisitions for imaging and video products.• Directing imaging and video standards activities at ISO, ANSI, and W3C.
