Mechanical Design Engineer
Telemetry, Tracking & Command Engineer
Lead Telemetry, Tracking & Command for a 3U cubesat mission in collaboration with Vector Launch. Developed Software Defined Radio-based ground station to enable USCs first spacecraft uplink. Utilized the GNU Radio software toolkit.
Water Flow Test Stand
I built this test stand to enable rapid and reliable testing of fluid system components such as injectors, cooling jackets, valves, and even full engine assemblies. It is able to flow water at pressures of up to 900 psig, and at flow rates of at least 10 lb/s, and it can determine the flow coefficient of a test article to an accuracy of 1%.
Jessie & James Rocket Engines
During my last semester at USC I designed, and built Jessie and James with my ex co-lead John Targonski. Jessie & James will serve LPL as workhorse engines, and will enable many days of testing out in the Mojave desert. They run on kerosene and gaseous oxygen and feature ablative cooling and film cooling of the injector faces. Jessie was fired in May 2018, but was unfortunately hard-started, which damaged the nozzle and injector. James is set to be tested soon and both engines will be fired simultaneously in the near future. This will allow LPL to gain experience in starting up multiple engines, a skill that will be needed for the Kyutech project.
Lead Technical Engineer
The Liquid Propulsion Laboratory is a graduate research lab that specializes in bi-propellant liquid rocket engines. LPL design, build and test all components and subsystems that the engines comprise, as well as running performance simulations, data acquisition and ground control.LPL was founded in 2015 and have thus far developed 'Hydra', an integrated mobile test stand, and 'Blue Steel', a simple workhorse engine. Currently the lab is designing a 2-engine propulsion system for a reusable flight vehicle, being built by the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. This propulsion system will feature 3D printed Inconel engines with 4,500 lbf of thrust.
Laboratory Lead & Technical Lead Engineer
Student Mentor
I mentored three community college students who interned at the Liquid Propulsion Laboratory as part of the Base 11 program.
