I originally trained as a biomedical engineer with a focus on polymer and biological materials. My doctoral thesis focused on applying biological materials (e.g fibrin, collagen, etc.) in the development of artificial implants like blood vessels and heart valves. My corporate engineering career has crossed multiple disciplines in the implanted medical device field having worked on concept projects in electrophysiology, cardiology, neurology, endovascular, and medical imaging/navigation. I'm familiar with a broad range of clinical practices and have worked on projects that have featured mechanical, chemical, biological, hardware, and software components.After receiving my MBA, I have moved into a role in Medtronic's cardiovascular pipeline marketing and strategy group where I have responsibility for managing the company's future stent portfolio. This role leverages my clinical and engineering experience but focuses on the business application of that knowledge and entails working with business functions to determine how best to deploy resources, clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement functions to determine the most effective routes to market, and scientific and R&D functions to ensure that products meet our desired market positioning.In addition to working with multi-disciplinary teams, I have a lot of experience working with multi-cultural teams having worked for 6 years as an expatriate in Ireland and working with sales and marketing teams from all the major geographies on a variety of products.I am most interested in business leadership and senior business development positions in the medical device industry.
