Mike Oliver (Ph.D., PMP, PMI-SP) is a program/project management (PPM) professional with over 30 years of experience, including 5 years in commercial health insurance software development and 14 years in various PPM consulting roles with the former global IT services firm, EDS. In his final role with EDS, he served as the PPM Technology Leader for their global PPM Capability Group that managed the standards, professional development, methods, and tools for the company’s 5,000+ project management professionals. Dr. Oliver holds patents for an earned value analysis software application called EVAnalyzer for Microsoft Project, for which he received the EDS 2005 Distinguished Engineering Award. He received that award again in 2006 for his Schedule Quality Analyzer application. Since joining The MITRE Corporation in 2011, Dr. Oliver performs research, provides support, and consults for U.S. government federal agencies and MITRE teams. He developed MITRE's Schedule Analysis Tool for rapid evaluation of project schedule quality. He also developed a Dependency Network Analysis Toolkit and a Monte Carlo simulation engine for Microsoft Project. Mike received his Ph.D. in the field of organization management with a project management specialization. Over the past 25 years, he has presented at several PPM conferences including the PM College of Scheduling Annual Conference, the ESI Portfolio Management Conference, PMI Global Congress events, Project World*Business Analyst World conferences, and various PMI chapters and professional development events. For one of the projects I planned and led, I developed an innovative technical solution for compressing a critical file for claims processing whose exponential growth rate was threatening consumption of CICS region space. The solution reduced the size of the file 93% and significantly flattened the slope of growth rate, and did so in a manner that did not increase processing time in utilization of that file. The project was delivered on-time, within budget, and with 0 defects. -
