About Mike Ormsby
My name is Mike and I love what I do. On a daily basis I work with our future doctors, lawyers, police officers, psychologists, engineers, accountants, and many more. I get to learn about the concepts of BIO 110 in one hour and SOC 271 the next. Today I could be working on making our First-Year Success Seminar more friendly to first-generation students, and tomorrow I could be talking with a department chair about trends they see in their classes and ways to improve retention and completion. A favorite speaker of mine, Simon Sinek, said, “What you do proves what you believe.” I believe in the power of education. I believe that “ah-ha!” moments happen on campus every day in class, in our office, in late-night student group meetings, and that those moments can be life-changing. There is nothing better than having the privilege to be a part of those moments.Forging new relationships (click that connect button!), encouraging people to reach their potential, searching for ways to improve upon what is, and an insatiable appetite for new ideas are what drive me in work and in life. You can regularly find me enthralled in articles or discussions about retention, competency-based education, arguments for the liberal arts, assessment, funding priorities, and student debt issues. Thanks for reading and I look forward to connecting!
Listed skills include Student Development, Student Affairs, Public Speaking, Residence Life, and 28 others.
