Senior Vice President, Defy Media And ClevverDefy Media Oct 2013 - Jul 2015New York, New York, UsI was retained after the merger of my former employer Alloy Digital and Break Media to form Defy Media, and asked to help integrate the two businesses, driving continued revenue growth through a cohesive strategy. I am accountable for planning and managing the creation of 5,000+ original videos each year, managing an extensive editorial and production team and controlling a multi-million dollar annual budget. The merger has been a success, with two distinct cultures now fully integrated and aligned. Once that was achieved, one of my major goals was to transform the Clevver brand into a true industry leader. To that end, I refocused the content and led a major re-branding. The results came very quickly, with high double-digit revenue growth, 1.8M gain in YouTube subscribers and a 90% increase in video views. As a result, Clevver is now the 2nd largest video brand at Defy Media achieving 250 percent growth in sponsored videos between 2014 and 2015.I have also focused on driving audience share growth through the development and creation of exciting original content including multiple new video series featuring celebrities, social media creators and YouTube stars, and a rapidly growing Spanish language entertainment channel on YouTube which recently completed a major programming deal with NBC Universal's Telemundo brand.Specific responsibilities include developing a cross-platform content strategy, establishing social and distribution strategy, collaboratively managing partnership development, leading talent development and recruitment for on and off screen talent, and developing/producing branded content and integration opportunities. -
Senior Vice President, Alloy Digital And ClevverAlloy Digital Jun 2012 - Oct 2013New York, Ny, UsAfter executing the sale of my company Clevver Media to Alloy Digital, I stayed on to lead a team of 35 employees in developing and launching new content ideas and video series for Teen.com, Clevver.com and Smosh Games. In this role, I collaborated across the organization, worked with sales and business development, oversaw video production, and built/managed content partnerships for the brands. I created new revenue streams by transforming Alloy Digital into a full-service video and editorial company with content distributed across multiple platforms. Specific successes in this role include creating, developing and launching one of the fastest-growing channels in YouTube history (“Smosh Games” reached 1 million subscribers in just 3 months and is now at 1.5 billion views). I also played a key role in forging syndication partnerships with major video services such as AOL, Yahoo, and Daily Motion, and created various brand extensions – for example, we co-produced a 60-minute Clevver documentary that was sold in Wal-Mart stores nationwide and premiered digitally on Netflix. -
Co-Founder / PresidentClevver Media Mar 2006 - Jun 2012Beverly Hills, California, UsMy business partner and I spotted an opportunity in the early days of Internet video, and bootstrapped Clevver Media from the ground up, creating a very successful digital video company focused on music, movies and pop culture for teens and young adults. My accountabilities included talent acquisition and management; deal negotiation; sales and marketing; P&L management; and content development and production. The company began with just the two of us but ultimately grew to 35 employees. 7 YouTube channels, and 80 million monthly video views. We built our initial audience by licensing short-form video content but quickly began to produce original content through a partnership with 3rd party production company. Within 2 years, we opened our own studios and ramped up to producing 30 videos a week and later secured significant financing from YouTube to launch 3 new channels. Ultimately we achieved a reach of 1.6 billion video views with revenues in the multi-millions. -
