Mike Perotti is an experienced civil litigator and leader. Prior to entering private practice in 2020, he served as Staff Attorney for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He was also previously appointed as Colonel and was the Commander of the Department of Detention Services. In that capacity he oversaw both the Orient Road and Falkenburg Jails as well the Court Services Division and several other support sections. He supervised a staff of over 1600, including sworn personnel, civilian staff and third party contractors.With prior experience as a prosecuting attorney in Hillsborough County as well as being a founding partner of a successful Tampa law firm, Mike is well versed in both criminal and civil aspects of the law. While in private practice, he worked closely with both private security entities and various government agencies to help navigate the changing environment of the security industry. Throughout his legal career, he has defended both entity and individuals in both state and federal courts from a wide range of civil claims including matters of auto negligence, supervisory negligence, false arrest, excessive force, negligent hiring or retention, contract dispute and premise liability. In both the 2007 and 2008 edition, prior to postponing his career as a lawyer for command duties, he was recognized as one of Florida's Legal Elite™ by Florida Trend.A graduate of Tampa Jesuit High School, Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. In 2013, he attended the Senior Management Institute for Police. In 2014, he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation's, Florida Executive Development Seminar. He was previously board certified in security management as a Certified Protection Professional ( CPP), a credential held by only a small percentage of individuals working in the protection industry around the world.
