Lead Firearms Instructor

Duties include, but are not limited to:• Lesson plan design (In-Service, Pre/Post Academy, Special Teams, Transitions, Return to Duty, etc.)• Maintaining firearms instructor, ECT instructor, and armorer cadre training • Management and operation of a progressive police firearms range and training program• Maintaining inventories on all department-owned firearms• Maintaining inventories on all department-owned electronic control tools and related equipment• Scheduling Range use for In-service Firearms Training, Police Department Special Teams Training (SWAT, SRT, EOD, etc.), and contracted outside agency use (40 + Agencies / 22 Federal)• Conduct pistol and rifle training for TPD personnel, recruits, and the Criminal Justice Training Commission• Subject Matter Expert to Training Division for Deadly Force Review Boards• Ordering and purchasing of all range equipment, firearms, and ammunition• Maintaining and servicing weapons inventory through armorer certification• Maintaining training records, lesson plans, and ammunition inventory• Supervision and scheduling of range instructors (28 Instructors / 15 RSO's)• Marking Cartridge System training and inventory• Maintenance of range impact area, target systems, all range equipment, classroom and other related tasks• Knowledge of all force technologies and ability to evaluate current best practices• Recommendations on policy changes to ensure department force policy incorporates best practices
