About Mike Ruthruff

I have a strong background in data technologies, cloud infrastructure, analytics, and online services, as well as, experience forming and leading teams. In my current role, I lead a cross-disciplinary team of software engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists who provide data analytics as a service for game teams. This includes designing building a cloud-native analytics platform for data ingestion, storage, and analysis of any kind. Our team develops the platform, and then uses that same platform, to enable more efficient game development, better game design and the ability to gain insight into player behavior. My previous experience includes working on the online services for Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. This included building the underlying data platform for Destiny 1 and elastic compute (cloud bursting) for Destiny 2. Before that I worked within the Azure Data Platform & SQL Customer Advisory teams collaborating with enterprise customers to design large scale data solutions whether that be on-prem, in the cloud or anywhere in between.Throughout all of this, what I have enjoyed the most , is the privilege to be a part of a number of great teams and launching some amazing products.

Most recently I have led a team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists, providing analytics as a service to multiple game titles in different phases of production. This included designing, developing and operating a cloud-native data ingestion/storage platform, working with teams to take game instrumentation from event schema to data models within the warehouse, developing reporting and embedding data analysts/scientists. In addition, I was responsible for providing observability solutions for logs, metrics and trace data to all teams within the company. As part of this I have worked across a broad range of technologies, directed cross-functional projects/teams/collaboration and supported many different stakeholders (leadership, game designers, marketing, engineering, etc). Part of my journey at ProblablyMonsters has included helping grow the company from a startup of ~25 people. This has given me first hand experience in what it takes to support all aspects of the business (technology infrastructure, build services, managing a shared game engine, etc).**Technologies** - Cloud providers: AWS, Azure, GCP - Data Warehousing: Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, Athena- Observability: Datadog, Grafana Cloud, Vector- CI/CD: GitHub, Jenkins, Perforce- Languages: SQL, Python, Java, Go.
