How does someone studying English, Politics, and Sociology end up in the roofing industry? I guess I just got lucky! From an early age, I had a hankering to be my own boss and to build a business that embraced my own values.It hasn't been the easiest of journeys – a career in sales within this industry was never going to be but it’s true, the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary! In 2010 I set up Regis Roofing Supplies,I then felt truly in control of my own destiny. This venture came to an unfortunate end so after dusting myself down, I understood that one learns far more in adversity than in success so in March 2020, my business partner and I launched Tektum Supplies Ltd.Running a roofing supplies business requires special knowledge; knowledge I have acquired during my 20+ years in the industry. However, running a growing business in such a competitive environment requires skills learned over a much longer period. A passion for customer service, an ability to empathise with clients and my team have contributed to my success so far.I have been involved with some of the biggest construction projects in the UK, this experience has proven invaluable and has helped me create a business that supports major projects in the UK and overseas.Relationship with customers and suppliers are equally important to me; both are built on trust and neither is ever taken for granted. I take business very seriously, however I genuinely believe in the old adage, "Make your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile". Those who know me will testify to my happy demeanour and I find people generally respond positively to that.Outside work, I enjoy time with my kids, which included coaching my son's rugby team but is now confined to being a proud parent of both my son and daughter on the sidelines. Sport and music also play a big part of my social life - watching football and rugby or playing golf by day, and satisfying my love of live music by attending concerts in the evenings!I strongly believe in giving something back. It's always been a pleasure to support my grandmother's favourite charity - The Salvation Army. I also support The Beatson Cancer Charity and UNICEF.
