Software EngineerQuixey Oct 2012 - Feb 2015Search Backend, 10/12 - 1/13Quixey was a fast paced, high energy startup environment where everyone wore multiple hats. I couldn't have asked for a better environment for me to learn to code in! With so many talented and motivated engineers around I always felt humbled by the massive growth opportunity. I learned to code by studying The C Programming Language by Ritchie & Kernighan. I broke in my skills working on the Search Backend team, the internals of the company's core product. At first I worked mostly on small and non-critical projects. I worked on things like our internal tools and creating a logging, reporting and alerts on our search indexing process. After I'd ramped up I began to tackle bigger projects like updating our indexes to index and search on multiple English locales.Tech stack:Java 7, Python 2.7, Flask, Jetty, Ant, Unix, Linux, MacAPI, 1/13 - 11/14For most of my time on the API team we handled all things python in the company. That included our public facing API, dashboards, internal tools and services, offline tools, indexers, etc. I developed new API's, added features, migrated and maintained legacy services and fixed bugs. I also wrote unit tests, validation tests, product specs and API documentation. All code had to maintain backwards compatibility and high code quality. Additionally code had to be compatible in both Amazon and Aliyun environments.Solutions, 11/14 - 3/15My time on the Solutions team was spent mostly just the same as on the API team. The engineering team split between "core" products and "solutions". Effectively that meant that the API team split so that some engineers could be focused and dedicated to designing and implementing the next level system architecture.Tech Stack:Python 2.7, Python 3.3, Flask, CherryPy, Amazon Web Services, Aliyun, Git, mongoDb, Sqlite, unix, linux, mac

Recruiting Sourcer And CoordinatorQuixey Jan 2012 - Oct 2012Quixey is a search engine for apps. Quixey's proprietary Functional Search(TM) uses natural language queries to help users find the app that can do what they want. Quixey is the best app discovery solution out there, thanks to the brilliant and motivated team.I liked recruiting for Quixey because every day I got to meet talented people and decide who's got what it takes to be a Quixier. The energy and passion of the team was inspiring. Quixey was devoted to supporting and developing the members of it's team and it showed.

Premium Insurance Field AuditorLowry & Associates Jun 2010 - Dec 2010At Lowry and Associates I worked as a Premium Insurance Field Auditor. I had the pleasure of traveling to small to mid- sized business and getting an insider's view of how the company ran. As an auditor I learned way more than I expected. For example, once I visited an orchard and learned that fruit is collected by a machine that grabs trees and then vibrates at a specific frequency to make the fruit drop off without breaking all the branches.
