My most recent experience was working on the Kubernetes Operator team at SingleStore where I was helped streamline many of their existing processes and added the ability to live debug the operator locally to aid in developing and diagnosing issues, something that was previously much more cumbersome. Prior to that at HPE I automated vCenter using HashiCorp's Packer and VMware's govc to build both Ubuntu Linux ISOs and then VMware-specific OVAs to be distributed to customers and on OnPrem in a VMs to support HPE's Greenlake Cloud Platform. This build process runs on GitHub Actions on a custom runner as well as locally on macOS or Ubuntu.I have a strong emphasis on writing robust code and on testing, and am currently excited to work with any of these methodologies and technologies: Microservices, RESTful APIs, gPRC, GraphQL, command line tools, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, and Kubernetes.I also worked on an open-source Docker-based local development solution including packaging existing applications in Docker containers and writing microservices and command line (CLI) tools using Linux, Bash and GoLang.Finally, I have significant experience with SQL — MySQL, MS SQL and most recently SIngleStore — although SQL almost feels like table stakes these days as mastering cloud computing technologies is what differentiates the leading developers of today.

    For this long-term engagement I was hired as a GoLang developer but was quickly assigned DevOps tasks given my interest and experience in that area. I worked in Bash and Groovy building Jenkins job to manage creation of CentOS-based RPMs and Ubuntu-based ISOs and OVAs as a base for VMware VMs running on vCenter automated via vSphere CLI w/Frog Artifactory asset management.Beyond that I have used Packer to create a Windows Server 2019 Vagrant box to allow our team's developers to develop and test their Windows agents locally on their Macs. Thus included working with PowerShell, Windows System Image Manager, the autounattend system, touched on writing Packer plugins in GoLang and optimizing scripts using Hashicorp Configuration Language (HCL.) In addition I have built Ubuntu ISOs using Packer and automated a VM running on vCenter to build the and evaluate OVAs that can be run locally or via GitHub Actions on:push.My last project before taking a new contract role had me build a solution that uses Hashicorp Packer to orchestrate the building of an Ubuntu ISO with customizations that is then used to create an OVA for use in VMware/vSphere/vCenter, uploaded to jFrog Artifactory and finally pushed to Amazon AWS S3 for ultimate download by customers, and all manage by a series of GitHub Actions workflows.I also did get to do a lot of work in REST API microservice development using GoLang for our CentOS-based gateway and Windows-based client for the collection of machine status and SQL Server performance metrics.

    Short-term contract to develop pattern for GoLang-based microservices and CLI to support a Node JS-based Backstage developer portal implementation[*] for Frontside's client Resideo with a great emphasis on testing and testability.Used the Echo web framework and an OpenAPI specification with code generation for the microservice scaffolding. The services leveraged GitOps techniques with DevOps change management via Github Pull Requests to control jobs for a Jenkins build system[*]. Developed a Go-lang based MitM proxy as a test double for GitHub API and then per client request changed focus to integrate Node JS-based Mountebank for API testing requiring diagnosing and remediation regarding Mountebank's lack of support for the HTTPS CONNECT method.Finally, implemented a pattern for BDD-based testing using Ginkgo and GoMega and developed techniques to allow copious use of duplicated string literals throughout a test suite so that individual tests are easier to read and understand while still maintain a high-confidence level in test robustness.[1] The Backstage portal and Jenkins build server were implemented and managed by others, not me.

    After a few months of contract work at Colibri I was asked to lead the engineering aspects of their growing number of WordPress implementations — currently eight (8) — along with a custom PHP application that presents Colibri's offerings to its customers via the web and allow them to be purchased that we plan to convert into a WordPress must-use plugin.While on this project we moved from almost 10 copies of the same codebase — where they had significantly modified most of the copies to make each a unique codebase version controlled via Pantheon hosting — to a single GitHub repos for plugins and a theme and a site-specific repo for each site. This included creating a build system to collect up the code — using Bash and PHP's Composer — and publish the code to Pantheon's site-specific Git repo for each site. The project also included a data synchronization implementation which used Docker, Bash, Pantheon's Terminus CLI and PHP to pull down a MySQL database, import tables and then synchronize selected tables with the WordPress Custom Post Types and Custom Terms. As part of that we developed a class library for interacting with all their custom ecommerce-related tables and a generic library for streamlining data access that was compatible with WordPress $wpdb.

    Hired to stabilize a collection up WordPress sites that had been implemented without much of a plan but that needed to have a enterprise-level development and deployment process applied. Initially this included solving the problems related to the proxying the /blog/ URL path of the company's leading website located in RentPath's own data centers to a WordPress site hosted at WPEngine. And this was a scenario that was unsupported from WPEngine's position.Later it included setting up local development, continuous integration with CircleCI and deployment to WPEngine. The goals were to establish and document a process whereby any new developer could come in an be immediately productive working on their WordPress sites without requiring high-level WordPress or RentPath-specific expertise and yet still be able to build, test and deploy updates without fear of issues.Additional tasks included reviewing and selecting plugins, establishing a standard base for WordPress development for all WordPress-related sites at RentPath, and establishing a less time-consuming process for maintaining the constant updates of plugins and WordPress core itself required by WordPress-based websites. This is in my role as managing director of NewClarity Consulting LLC.
