Supporting Imply customers using Apache Druid

Part of a small team who built a scaleable analytics and reporting platform from the ground up using Druid, Python and JavaScript. Widely adopted throughout Target, serving more than 1 million reports a day, expect to see that grow by orders of magnitude.

Brought in by the Chief Data & Analytics Officer to help with special projects. Helping migrate store sales transaction data ingestion to Hadoop. Writing code as part of a team building massively scalable and highly performant business intelligence and data analytics capability from open source technology. Also work with business users to show them how to design data pipelines and utilize the BI and analytics tools that we're providing to them.

RichRelevance powers personalized shopping experiences for the world’s largest and most innovative retail brands, including Wal-Mart, Sears, Target and others. • Responsible for the development of the RichRelevance core retail product, RichRecs, as well as RichPromo, ICS and RichConnect which generate most of the company's revenue.• Tripled the team over the last 12 months, including the integration of the Avail acquisition in Malmo, Sweden.• In 2013, shipped 23 high quality releases into the RichRelevance private cloud, about one every 2 weeks. The RichRelevance eCommerce platform is responsible for over $100 billion of ecommerce traffic since inception in 2008.• Work closely with Product Management and Sales to prioritize product features and quickly get them into production.• Work with Client Services as the first contact for production issues. Expert in using the RichRelevance products and digging into complex issues to do first level debugging, prior to addressing issues as patches or scheduling stories to be addressed in the sprint process

• Focused on building new products at Mocana, including MAP, VeloDAR, VeloVPN and a yet-to-be-announced product in the Internet of Things market. These products build upon the legacy security protocol products that Mocana traditionally built and sold.• Introduced Agile into Mocana, allowing the company to quickly build new products with maximum stakeholder feedback.• Managing engineering, QA, technical support, professional services and technical documentation.• Doubled the engineering team, after inheriting the team from the CTO co-founder. Very strong skills in building teams and hiring great people, allowing the sales team to substantially grow revenue.• Manage engineering teams in the U.S. and in India, allowing the company to keep engineering expense in line with the Mocana operating plan.• Manage professional services, leveraging a network of 25 contractors across 2 different companies, as well as independent contractors. Managed multimillion dollar revenue from post-sales engagements.• Helped device OEM's release products integrated with Mocana technology.• Very familiar with Android and iOS, both at a system level and with mobile applications, allowing the team to efficiently develop new technology for securing mobile applications.• Supporting standards bodies such as IETF, raising the awareness of Mocana as a leader in the security space.• Strongly encourage and foster getting technology patented at Mocana.

Responsible to the software development group doing core platform development at DemandTec. In addition, I manage Production Operations (data center) and the QA lab.

The Responsys product is a leader in the Email Service Provider (ESP) space, operating as a SaaS. I managed the engineering and QA teams at Responsys and I managed the Operations team during a transition period from late 2005 through Q1 2006.• The Responsys project is built using Java and Oracle.• Responsible for the 2005 release that established Responsys as #1 in the Jupiter and Forrester reports, resulting in a large improvement in sales.• Recruited more than a dozen new software engineers and data center professionals over a 2 year period, bringing in much-needed new talent to help move the product to new levels of functionality required by the growth strategy for the business.Key Characteristics:- software as a service (SaaS)- Java, JBoss, Tomcat, Oracle, EMC- high volume application (billions of emails per month)- data center management- hiring and recruiting

Kana provides leading enterprise software solutions for customer support. I was employee #20 at Kana, the company had grown to over 1200 employees as of 10/00. • Managed a 40-person engineering team, responsible for producing the next generation of Kana customer service applications built on the Kana eBusiness Platform (J2EE/EJB). This effort involved engineering teams in Princeton, NJ, Manchester, NH, San Francisco, CA and Redwood City, CA. This project required broad management skills and a deep understanding of customer needs. I was responsible for defining clear responsibilities for designing and building the underlying technology behind these applications. I acted as a focal point for the tradeoffs that needed to be made between time to market, quality and the implementation depth of the various product features.• Kana had a very successful IPO in 1999 and remains a public company.

Vantive was one of the creators of the customer service software market. I was employee #6 at Vantive, the company grew to about 700 employees prior to my departure.• Wrote C++ code and managed teams of 10 people through 6 major releases of the Vantive product. With the initial team, I helped design and build the original Vantive product and sell that product to early customers.• Learned what it took to produce products in the areas outside of just writing the code, for example writing build scripts, managing source code control and doing release builds and QA.• Vantive had a very successful IPO in 1995 and was eventually acquired by PeopleSoft (now Oracle).
