Inet - Integrated Development EnvironmentAs leader of the IDE group, accountability included Design Engineering, Application Frameworks and Development Environment Support functions. Also lead the INet development team which was responsible for the support, maintenance and development of the Virtual Service Center application - a critical application that enables customer self-service over the internet via our NYL.com flagship website. Additionally, responsibilities were expanded to include the usability team. INet Development Team Responsible for the support, maintenance and development of several Java based web applications associated with our company websites including the Virtual Service Center (VSC). The Virtual Service Center is NYL’s customer self service application that allows customers to view their portfolio of holdings, make changes to their personal information and/or status and perform other online transactions.Usability Team Responsible for application usability design as well as corporate look and feel or our websites and web based applications. The usability team was responsible for maintaining best practices for user experience and style guidelines. Inet - Integrated Development EnvironmentLeader of a group of 10-12 people responsible for the development and implementation of NYL’s Enterprise Application Frameworks as well as leading the Design Engineering and Development Environment Support teams.Design EngineeringLed the team responsible for designing the “top 10” applications for the Corporate Information Department in 2007 as part of the "Stability and Performance" initiative. This team consisted of 2 senior level design engineers with several years experience in the design and development of enterprise applications. Design Engineers translated business specifications into technical design specifications using UML for the above-mentioned applications. Design Engineers also worked with the application teams in guiding them in the implementation of the given design specification.Enterprise Application Frameworks Responsible for the Design, Development, Implementation and ongoing support of the Enterprise Application Frameworks software. Frameworks were reusable software building blocks and documentation that can be used by application developers as is or customized for specific programming needs. Technical Lead and Manager of Enterprise Application FrameworksLed a team of 4-6 people in the Design, Development, Implementation, Integration and ongoing support of the Enterprise Application Frameworks software. Enterprise Application Frameworks were reusable software building blocks and documentation that can be used by application developers as is or customized for specific programming needs. Application Frameworks provided consistency, quality, and reusability and shorten the amount of time required for delivering business applications. The Frameworks were created to assist with simplifying complex object oriented development efforts by implementing common design patterns prior to the availability of the Spring and Apache frameworks which were later incorporated.In addition to Frameworks, I was responsible for the implementation and ongoing support of the Enterprise Data Access Services. The data access services were reusable components and web services that governed access to our enterprise operational data stores: Producer, Consumer and Policy. These services were utilized by most of our web based applications including several of our top 20 projects and were responsible for processing hundreds of millions of transactions per year. These components were also built upon the Enterprise Application Frameworks and provided reusability and consistency across our inventory of applications.Given the critical nature of this software, quality assurance was of utmost importance. I ensured that suites of unit tests were written using the JUnit framework which became our standard for test-driven development.

Advanced Technology GroupAs a member of the Advanced Technology Group (ATG), I was very involved with the initial stages of developing our new web infrastructure from an application development perspective. During this time, I was involved with developing some of the first web-based applications and initial R&D for what later become our Enterprise Application Frameworks. As part of validating this new infrastructure, I was the technical lead in charge of developing the Consolidated Statement application that was used to identify and “flush-out” many issues and pave the way for web-based application development at NYL. This project followed a full application development lifecycle utilizing the Rational Unified Process. Skills required were Java, JEE, UML, XML, JMS, EJB, Websphere, Oracle, plSql, JSP.

Field TechnologyI was the Technical Lead and Lead Developer for the initial release and rollout (and many subsequent releases) of the field technology desktop system. The Field Technology system enabled Sales Agents the ability to access and store their clients’ information on their mobile platform - which at the time were laptop computers. I worked with the customer department personnel, Sales agents, Trainers, consultants and others within the IT department and business areas to deliver this system that was quite successful and revolutionary at the time of its release. As this team grew, I provided technical leadership for a team of approx. 5 developers. As a team, we developed all of the initial Field Technology “Viewers” such as Agents’ Ledger, Policy Viewer, Mutual Funds, Service Request, etc. and enabled integration with other applications such as FTIS (illustration system), and FTCS (Field Technology Contact System).

FACTS New BusinessLead Software Developer responsible for ongoing enhancements and maintenance of the FACTS New Business System in support of new product initiatives. One of my main achievements while working on this system was the redesign and subsequent implementation of the “end of transaction” (EOT) processing which was the part of the system that performed and applied all of the business logic and business rules against the policies being submitted. Involved with rewriting the bank teller computer system. This project enabled tellers to provide much more service to customers over-the-counter than was ever available in the past.
