G2V Optics is an emerging global leader in smart, precision lighting and is committed to creating enabling technologies to power & feed the world of tomorrow. G2V currently provides technology solutions to world-leading researchers, Fortune 500 technology firms, and aerospace companies in over 35 countries. G2V sells several solar simulation product lines globally and enables our customers to develop solutions for a more sustainable built-world. Our customers use G2V's photons to drive the most critical developments in solar renewable energy, high efficiency food production, reliable advanced materials, and space exploration of this decade and beyond. Across the value chain of each of these sectors, highly reliable lighting is needed to develop, manufacture, process, and test the devices and outputs in each case. Our software-controlled Engineered Sunlight™ technology acts as a foundation to replicate geography-, season-, and altitude-specific natural lighting environments, as well as create light which matches the spectrum, uniformity, and stability requirements of scientific standards.

CtoG2V Optics Inc. Sep 2018 - PresentEdmonton, Alberta, CaG2V's founding mission is to develop and commercialize technology that will enable food production for a growing population while significantly reducing fresh water and land use. We do this by improving yield, quality, and operating costs for commercial growers by providing efficient 'engineered sunlight'. Our advanced technology provides greenhouses, vertical farms, and home growers with multi-zone lighting and plant monitoring, allowing a grower to keep tabs on their entire crop. We are obsessed with using new technology to make a difference and continue to develop some of the most dynamic and innovative new products for the horticulture market. -

Research AssociateUniversity Of Alberta Jan 2009 - Dec 2015Edmonton, Ab, CaI lead a research team on a five-year industrial research chair program for Micralyne, Inc.We are developing nanostructured thin film technologies for gas sensing, organic solar cell, and chromatography applications. I have worked with undergraduate, M.Sc., Ph.D. andpost-doctoral researchers during all aspects of their projects.• Provisional patent: method for producing branched nanowires US61/730206• Provisional patent (preparing): manufacturing method for nanostructured thin films• Co-invented 1” diameter fluorescence spectrometer for ConeTec, Inc.• Designed and tested solar cell characterization tool suite: calibrated solar simulator, external quantum efficiency tester, and relative humidity and temperature controlled environmental chamber with online radiometric spectral monitoring• Developed gas sensor technology for Micralyne, Inc.: characterized and improved response time, sensitivity, lifetime and specificity (developed technique to simultaneouslyidentify and quantify multiple analytes using a single nanostructured sensor element)• Developed nanostructured chromatography plates that are 10 times faster than commercial equivalents, requiring design, implementation and testing of time-resolved chromatography video system and data analysis software• Programmed nanowire thin film growth simulator using Unreal development kit• Co-wrote two successful grant proposals worth $425,000 per year ($2.1M over 5 years)• Led research group to record total productivity (18 papers) in the 2010–2011 academicyear, and record per-capita productivity (14 total, 1.4 per student) in 2012-2013• Published 33 peer-reviewed articles and 5 conference proceedings -
Nserc Post Doctoral FellowUniversity Of Alberta Jan 2007 - Dec 2008Edmonton, Ab, CaResearched optical and sensor applications of nanostructured thin films. Collaborated withPh.D. students on their research projects.• Developed anti-aging protocol for relative humidity sensor technology, extending lifetime from 48 hours to 100 days, allowing Schneider Electric to evaluate technology• Engineered nanostructure which controlled thin film angular light emission profiles• Programmed Jacobi elliptic integral functions for open source mpmath Python module• Published 9 peer-reviewed journal articles, 1 book chapter, 6 conference proceedings -
Ph.D. StudentUniversity Of Alberta May 2000 - Dec 2006Edmonton, Ab, CaThesis work on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), quantifying the LIBS process and reducing energy requirements to faciliate design of portable LIBS systems.Thesis title: Quantification of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy at low energies.• Led a simultaneous collaboration with two competing spectrophotometer vendors, comparing absolute instrumental performance of new products in a common publication• Developed forensic technique for non-destructive fingerprint analysis, resulting in a consultation visit by a Japanese team of forensic scientists• Won national scholarships at M.Sc., Ph.D and post-doctoral levels• Published 8 peer-reviewed articles, 1 book chapter, and 9 conference proceedings -
