As Azavea's first interface and experience designer, I worked closely with the software development teams to design, implement, and enhance user experiences and interfaces for internal products and client applications, as well as assisting in company branding and marketing collateral creation. Over four years, I worked closely with company leadership to transform our design process to be user-centric, hiring three additional designers and building out a formal practice that included research and strategy, regular testing and validation, and experience and interface best practices.During my time at Azavea, I built over 30 software applications, including four internal products, most notably HunchLab, a machine learning platform for predictive policing that received international recognition. I was also involved heavily in internal research and development, including exploring the application of Google Glass as part of HunchLab as an early-adopter in the Glass Beta program.
